Samhir Vasdev is the Technical Adviser for Digital Development at IREX, a global development and education organization. There, Samhir drives the organization’s efforts to foster better use of data to inform decisions, learning, and action within IREX and its programs. For example, he advises a unique subnational data program, Data Zetu, that tests creative ways—like data murals and songs—to make open data accessible and relevant to everyday people in Tanzania. He also supports IREX’s strategic innovation and learning agendas.

On the side, Samhir is the co-creator of Data Day, a YouTube series that visualizes the "data exhaust" that we produce in our everyday lives, and runs Dev Design, a small information and service design consultancy. He's also an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University's Graduate School of Foreign Service, where he teaches data visualization and digital development.

Prior to joining IREX, Samhir spent six years with the World Bank’s Digital Development unit, where he helped governments collaborate with citizens to improve public services using open, lean, and creative tools and methods, and its Innovation Lab, where he analyzed and built skills for creative confidence with technical project teams. Samhir's regional experience include projects in South America, East and West Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in interdisciplinary technology studies, both from Georgetown University in Washington DC.
